Why is Omega‑3 important?

Omega-3 can lower blood pressure, reduces triglycerides in the blood, helps reduce joint inflammation in rheumatoid disease, helps nourish brain and eye function, helps prevent and alleviate the risks of dementia, depression, asthma, migraine, and diabetes, as well as reducing the risk of heart disease and ischemic stroke.

"The grey matter in our brain is about 40% DHA. As well as brain health, DHA is also important for eye care and general health. EPA is more about reducing inflammation so it's very important for reducing the chances of heart disease. DHA and EPA work independently in many ways and together in others. There are links to benefits across almost every ailment you can think of including ADHD, asthma, improving mood and alleviating symptoms of depression. Omega-3s should definitely be classed as vitamins!"

Understanding Omega‑3 Types: EPA, DHAALA

Omega-3s are essential fats that our bodies require but cannot produce on their own. The main types of Omega-3s are EPA, DHA, and ALA. These fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining optimal health, particularly benefiting our eyes, heart, and brain. 40% of the grey matter in the brain is made up of Omega 3 in DHA form, so increasing our intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids boosts the building blocks of the brain. This helps with attentiveness and focus, improves cognitive function, brain development and brain cell regeneration.

Dry eyes and irritated skin can be uncomfortable and antisocial. No one enjoys scratching during meetings or at dinner, and it can get worse when we sweat, so the gym or that weekend run can become a deeply unpleasant experience. If your skin is driving you mad, or you’re suffering hair thinning or hair loss, depression, joint pain or stiffness, you may be lacking in omega-3. If your body does not have enough omega-3 fats available, it may start asking for help, and the discomfort could intensify.

When it comes Omega-3 and nutrition, it’s really important we get the right kind of Omega-3. That starts with understanding the different types.

There are three main types of Omega-3, all of which fall into the same category, but they are really different. We are talking about DHA, EPA, and ALA.

DHA – also known as Docosahexaenoic Acid – DHA is what makes up 40% of the grey matter. It’s an absolutely vital component, of the brain and the retina.

EPA – also known as Eicosapentaenoic Acid – EPA stimulates powerful anti-inflammatory processes in the body.

ALA – also known as Alpha Linolenic Acid - ALA is an inactive form of Omega-3. It’s very commonly found but it needs to be converted by the body to be effective, the conversion rate is incredibly low.

So when it comes to the types Omega-3 that are most useful for our bodies and nutrition, we’re looking for a high strength DHA and EPA.

Frequently Asked Questions

The algae are grown in tanks at a Pharmaceutical-quality facility, rather than taken from the ocean. This is to ensure the highest possible purity. No additional chemicals are required.

It is in Triglyceride form. The key aspect is that we grow our Microalgae in controlled conditions at a Pharmaceutical-quality specialist facility. Unlike seawater where contamination and heavy metal issues arise, we are able to control absolutely everything and therefore guarantee the complete purity of our product.

Yes we are based in UK and operate under the jurisdiction of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) plus local authority regulations. As such, we have to test everything independently and indeed our products are subject to random testing by authorities.

We use Schizochytrium sp. algae.

We use D-Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E) extracted from Sunflower Oil. It is a small amount, approximately 0.1%, solely to provide antioxidant protection for the Omega-3 Oil. It isn't at a level of nutritional significance.

We use an enzyme extraction method. Cold pressing isn't possible because the microalgae are too small.

We use a small amount of Carrageenan to help form the capsule. It is perfectly safe and not something to avoid. It wrongs gets linked with data only relevant to 'polygeenan', which is a degraded derivative not used in food, or with data wrongly extrapolated from animals at irrelevant doses. We wouldn't dream of using any compounds unless we were 100% confident in their safety and suitability.

No Omega-3 doesn’t contain any iodine.

Your Questions Answered

Hi, I have just ordered some Omega 3 supplements from you & I have just listened to a video from a top scientist & researcher about the dangers of Carrageenan, & how it causes all kinds of problems especially to do with inflammation. Your Omega 3 Vegetology contains this substance. If you want to check it out yourself, the latest research comes from Dr William Li. Kind Regards, Trevor J Vaughan Hi, we've added quite a few FAQs on Carrageenan. It is essential to consider: 1) the accuracy of data (concerns actually surround Polygeenan, not Carrageenan - two very different compounds), 2) data relevance (animal data does not necessarily correlate to humans), and 3) dose (any potential inflammation links would be at levels a multitude higher than we use). We wouldn't dream of using a compound unless we were completely satisfied in its safety.
Could you please confirm if your quality assurance and third-party testing also include PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and forever chemicals) screening for the algae-based Omega-3 ingredients? I am specifically concerned about potential contamination with these substances. Has your water source been put through reverse osmosis and carbon filters before being used to grow the algae? The standard for removing these chemicals from the water. And do you have any testing for the water source? Hi, we test for all such impurities and toxins (including PFAs, Dioxins etc.). The algae are grown in tanks rather than taken from the sea, so there is complete control over purity. Therefore due to complete control over what goes in, there can be complete confidence in the purity of what comes out. The water media is of the highest purity and is very carefully balanced to allow the microalgae to grow correctly. The facility is Pharma-quality, so the water is fully tested and monitored.
Hey there! I just ordered your omega 3's for a multiple of time, but just now discovered that you recommende to store them in a dark, cool place, like a shelf, but not the fridge. Would it be better to store them on a shelf fulfilling these criterias or would a fridge be okay too, if not better because over time, the temperature in the fridge is at a constant level? Thanks in advance Hi, it is fine to store our Omega-3 supplements in the Fridge, although not necessary (we've extensively stability tested to demonstrate that a cupboard is fine). The Fridge will prolong maximum freshness for longer but please be aware the constant cold temperature can make the capsules more brittle and prone to bursting if shaken.
請問膠囊是否也是全素的 你好,是的,這些膠囊是純素的。(Hi, yes these capsules are vegan.)
We have been taking your multi vitamin for about a year now, with the omega 3. I do take viridian high B12 complex as well,as I have fibromyalgia. Also I take levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. I am a vegetarian. I have read that iron stops zinc been absorbed.Do you think adding in a zinc supplement would balance this. I am still very tired all the time, and thought it may help with energy levels?.Also my son has anxiety,he is on prescribed medication for this,he is 20hrs and doing a Dance degree,so very active. He is a vegetarian.Do you think he would benefit from a higher B6 supplementation to help with stress/anxiety and improve energy levels.Thank you Hi, we address Iron and Zinc interaction through the carefully balanced MultiVit formula and choice of ingredient forms. This is achieved by using Iron in an Amino Acid Chelate form and Zinc in a Citrate form. We don't think you will need an additional Zinc supplement. As you take an additional high B12 complex too, it might be worth taking this at a different time of day, so perhaps start the day with MultiVit + Omega-3, and then take the additional B12 at lunchtime. This will hopefully help to improve your energy balance at the right times of the day. For your Son, our Active Energy formula is worth consideration as this is designed to help provide energising levels while seeking to optimise the body clock. It contains B6 in a balanced formula with other key vitamins and minerals together with some Adaptogenic herbs. It might be worth you both trying Active Energy, as it gets really good feedback for energising and calming at the right times of the day.
I have a few questions about Vegetology’s DHA-EPA supplements. Could you please tell me the positions of DHA and EPA on the glycerol and the corresponding proportions of these positions? Also, could you specify the fats in the other positions and whether the stereospecificities are obtained from postprocessing or directly from the algal ‘fermentation’. Thank you. Hi, EPA is distributed across all positions whereas DHA prefers the SN-2 position. The only other fat is Omega-3 EPA as DPA (Docosapentaenoic Acid), which is present in a small amount compared to EPA and DHA. The composition and positioning is a natural result of the microalgal growth.

Good products, disappointing deliveries, over 20 days to receive the products, I got products from America and China in less than 7 days. Maybe on the future you will have an option, for those who wants products shipped faster to choose DHL or others deliveries with extra charges, instead of Royal Mail who sucks really bad. Have a nice day.
