Why is Omega‑3 important?

Omega-3 can lower blood pressure, reduces triglycerides in the blood, helps reduce joint inflammation in rheumatoid disease, helps nourish brain and eye function, helps prevent and alleviate the risks of dementia, depression, asthma, migraine, and diabetes, as well as reducing the risk of heart disease and ischemic stroke.

"The grey matter in our brain is about 40% DHA. As well as brain health, DHA is also important for eye care and general health. EPA is more about reducing inflammation so it's very important for reducing the chances of heart disease. DHA and EPA work independently in many ways and together in others. There are links to benefits across almost every ailment you can think of including ADHD, asthma, improving mood and alleviating symptoms of depression. Omega-3s should definitely be classed as vitamins!"

Understanding Omega‑3 Types: EPA, DHAALA

Omega-3s are essential fats that our bodies require but cannot produce on their own. The main types of Omega-3s are EPA, DHA, and ALA. These fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining optimal health, particularly benefiting our eyes, heart, and brain. 40% of the grey matter in the brain is made up of Omega 3 in DHA form, so increasing our intake of omega 3 essential fatty acids boosts the building blocks of the brain. This helps with attentiveness and focus, improves cognitive function, brain development and brain cell regeneration.

Dry eyes and irritated skin can be uncomfortable and antisocial. No one enjoys scratching during meetings or at dinner, and it can get worse when we sweat, so the gym or that weekend run can become a deeply unpleasant experience. If your skin is driving you mad, or you’re suffering hair thinning or hair loss, depression, joint pain or stiffness, you may be lacking in omega-3. If your body does not have enough omega-3 fats available, it may start asking for help, and the discomfort could intensify.

When it comes Omega-3 and nutrition, it’s really important we get the right kind of Omega-3. That starts with understanding the different types.

There are three main types of Omega-3, all of which fall into the same category, but they are really different. We are talking about DHA, EPA, and ALA.

DHA – also known as Docosahexaenoic Acid – DHA is what makes up 40% of the grey matter. It’s an absolutely vital component, of the brain and the retina.

EPA – also known as Eicosapentaenoic Acid – EPA stimulates powerful anti-inflammatory processes in the body.

ALA – also known as Alpha Linolenic Acid - ALA is an inactive form of Omega-3. It’s very commonly found but it needs to be converted by the body to be effective, the conversion rate is incredibly low.

So when it comes to the types Omega-3 that are most useful for our bodies and nutrition, we’re looking for a high strength DHA and EPA.

Frequently Asked Questions

The algae are grown in tanks at a Pharmaceutical-quality facility, rather than taken from the ocean. This is to ensure the highest possible purity. No additional chemicals are required.

It is in Triglyceride form. The key aspect is that we grow our Microalgae in controlled conditions at a Pharmaceutical-quality specialist facility. Unlike seawater where contamination and heavy metal issues arise, we are able to control absolutely everything and therefore guarantee the complete purity of our product.

Yes we are based in UK and operate under the jurisdiction of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) plus local authority regulations. As such, we have to test everything independently and indeed our products are subject to random testing by authorities.

We use Schizochytrium sp. algae.

We use D-Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E) extracted from Sunflower Oil. It is a small amount, approximately 0.1%, solely to provide antioxidant protection for the Omega-3 Oil. It isn't at a level of nutritional significance.

We use an enzyme extraction method. Cold pressing isn't possible because the microalgae are too small.

We use a small amount of Carrageenan to help form the capsule. It is perfectly safe and not something to avoid. It wrongs gets linked with data only relevant to 'polygeenan', which is a degraded derivative not used in food, or with data wrongly extrapolated from animals at irrelevant doses. We wouldn't dream of using any compounds unless we were 100% confident in their safety and suitability.

No Omega-3 doesn’t contain any iodine.

Your Questions Answered

Hello, I wanted to know which vitamins are to be taken daily and which are better to be taken in cure? Or is it better and more efficient to keep taken them daily? We take B12, multivits, omega 3, vollagen, tumeric and sleep. I used to take vit C but it seems not necessary with multivits. However the dosage of B12 is lower in multivits so can I take it alone or is it better to continue both B12 and multivits? One more question: my children are 5 and 10 and they’re both born vegan. They take b12 daily and a cure of vitamin D every winter and proviotics twice a year (in winter and summer usually). They’re very healthy and active kids but I wanted to know if they need more like omega 3 as well or if it is not necessary yet. Thank you so much for your help Regards, Carole Bieber Hi, of the combination you are using, a daily regime of MultiVi + Omega-3 + Vollagen + Turmeric + sleep would work well. We agree you should not require additional Vitamin C. Hopefully you will find the ongoing level of B12 you are obtaining from the MultiVIt will be sufficient. If you find you do still require additional B12, it is worth considering taking this additionally 1-2 times per week and checking your B12 status. For your children, we definitely recommend Omega-3. It is absolutely essential and should really be considered as a Vitamin (maybe "Vitamin O" !). The benefits to children in terms of added focus and concentration are usually very fast and noticeable with Omega-3 supplementation.
I'm sensitive to high arginine, so I need to look for products with a good lysine-to-arginine ratio where possible as I'm prone to recurrent shingles, which can be triggered by arginine. Can you please advise what the arginine situation is with your Omega 3 product? Hi, there is no arginine in our Omega-3 formulas
What algae species is the omega made out of? Hi, we use Schizochytrium sp.
Is the vegetology found on Amazon the same as you? Or is it an imposter? Hi, we are on Amazon but please be sure to visit the Vegetology Amazon store to ensure it is definitely our products.
what totox of your products is and how often is tested? Hi, the TOTOX specification for the Algal Omega-3 Oil is 26 but our results have never exceeded 7. Every batch is tested.
What do you recommend to help with fatty liver? I am using your Omega3 already, are there other supplements that will help? Hi, Omega-3 is really good option here so its great that you're taking it. We'd recommend considering adding our MultiVit too. This and our Omega-3 compliment each other very well. Vitamins A, C, D, E, B12, Coenzyme Q10, Folate, and several of the antioxidants found within our MultiVit all have strong links to helping with fatty liver.

The capsules have a pleasant, sweet taste. They are soft gels that are easy to swallow. The containers look small, but these omega‑3 supplements are very effective.

I've been taking 2 a day for 6 weeks now, no adverse effects, not sure about positive effects, nothing obvious. The foam packaging was completely unnecessary and now I don't know what to do with it. Also they could've halved the postage and packaging by sending my vollagen with the omega 3 instead of separately (I ordered them both in the same day).
